I recently bought a Citronella Anti-Bark Collar for my Golden-Doodle and it has worked so far but I was curious about any harmful effects…Anyone have info?
to get your dog to stop barking? How well do they work? Is there anything cruel or unusual about this type of collar?
I won’t use any anti-bark collars that cause electric shocck or ultrasouds, but what about some collars that spray citronella? Do they work? And are they as humane as they sound?
I do know why he barks, he barks at other dogs. And he knows it is not right, because when I go outside ans shhh him he stops, and he doesn’t do it because he is outside, because the door is open, I let him in, but he prefers to run outside to bark at other dogs!
My dog is VERY stubborn and we might have to consider moving into a condo soon.
My dog is on a lot of medication for epilepsy (thankfully he only has 1 or 2 seizures a month now), but recently he has started to whine and bark a lot whilst in the car. I am due to have a baby in the next 3 months and so I need to sort this issue out, or I will no longer be able to take him out with me and I don’t want to leave him at home all the time. I obviously cannot use a spray bottle while I am driving, so I was wondering if a citronella anti bark collar would be a good thing or would it cause him to fit? I need some advice, thanks.

We are very happy with the citronella bark collars. We have three dogs, all are terriers and they can get into a bark-fest. These collars have worked wonders, and are truly humane– they work without pain. I wouldn’t use one of the shock collars. They are not “humane”- they shock and they hurt! If you don’t believe me, put it on your own neck and give it a try. I have seen dogs with burns on their necks from those. (As an aside, yes, I tried this citronella collar too. I let it spray me full in the face. Not pleasant, but not painful.) If you love your dog, try this method. BTW, don’t buy the expensive replacement batteries here. They are a standard size and can be obtained at any Walgreens, Target, etc for around .
Unfortunately, the collar didn’t do anything for our dog. I’ve tried the collar multiple times (went thru the refill can already), but she is very happy to just be barking away. The only effects I can figure out in our case is that we are out , and the dog smells like Citronella.
On the positive side, the device has been pretty durable and sits on the dog well. Citronella just didn’t work for us.
